It is hard to imagine the pain that Ypres had to endure during World War 1, having extreme wealth in the middle ages and then been reduced to rubble just over 100 years ago. You can’t fail to be moved by a visit to Ypres, or Wipers as the troops used to call it. Totally re-built in its original medieval splendour, Ypres is a reminder that people can bounce back and have the resilience to carry on.
Top places to visit are the Menin Gate where the Last Post is sounded every evening by the local Fire Brigade and Passchendaele cemetery.

Albert Hotel

Located in the centre of Ostend the Albert Hotel is a historical building that has seen many changes, and over the last three years has undergone substantial renovation.
It was first built in 1850 and called the ‘Hotel de Flandres’ in of course the ‘Vlaanderenstraat’.
It was one of the most important hotels in Ostende and had a central gate leading to a courtyard and stables.
In 1891 a new building was erected incorporating a shopping gallery and cafes, where the stables had previously been situated. It was then renamed Hotel Leopold II.
