Cologne Christmas Markets
Christmas market at Cologne Cathedral: With more than four million visitors each year, this “Christmas market of hearts” counts to one of Germany’s most popular ones. Framed by a tent of twinkling stars, against the stunning backdrop of Cologne Cathedral, over 100 stage appearances enchant visitors to the market. Beneath the roundabout 25 metre high, festively decorated Christmas tree, you will discover culinary delights, individually handmade arts and crafts, selected gifts and the social involvement of 150 stallholders.
Heinzels Winter Fairytale – Cologne Old Town:This rustic, fairy tale Christmas market with old-world charme, which is dedicated to the legend of the “Heinzelmännchen” (or “elves”) of Cologne, is situated in the heart of Cologne’s Old Town, spreading over the squares “Alter Markt” and “Heumarkt”. Highlights are a spectacular ice skating rink which is integrated into the market, unique theme alleys such as the sweets or the toy alley and life-performing arts and crafts specialists from all over Europe.
Market of Angels – Christmas at Neumarkt: The “Angels’ Market” is also located centrally at the heart of Cologne, between the city’s most popular shopping streets. Under a sea of brightly twinkling stars within the trees visitors get enchanted by tastefully designed houses featuring individually decorated and adorned gables. Angels tend to walk over the market and next to entertainment stage programs this market offers delicious food, selected gifts and qualitative arts and crafts.
Village of St. Nicholas at Rudolfplatz: Located only about a 10 minutes’ walk away from the Market of Angels and near the trendy Belgian Quarter, the colourful St. Nicholas’ Village at Rudolfplatz combines the German version known as St. Nicholas with the international one called Santa Claus. Especially with its reindeers and elves, with the walkable house of St. Nicholas, the huge “advent calendar” and “the village chapel” this idea of a Christmas market is also very appealing to kids. But its cosy, magical atmosphere with its radiant illuminations attracts visitors of all ages alike!
Cologne Harbour Christmas market at the Chocolate Museum: Modern and stylish: This large maritime Christmas market is located in a picturesque backdrop directly on the river Rhine, right in front of the Chocolate Museum, with snowy white pagoda tents reminiscent of ships’ sails. A vintner’s mulled wine is served on board the large timber sailing vessel, whilst mulled beer and fire punch are available from the lighthouse. The culinary choices on offer here as well as the gift ideas, handicrafts and the entertainment programme are impressively diverse and high quality.
Christmas market at the Stadtgarten: Located between the trees in Cologne’s oldest park this cosy Christmas Market on the edge of the trendy Belgian Quarter is especially popular with the locals. More than 90, temporarily changing stallholders present Christmassy goods from fashion and art to jewelry and culinary delights. Apart from an entertainment program consisting of around 30 events including live music there are also daily programs for children.
Heavenue Cologne: It will become “heavenly” again between Hahnenstraße and Schaafenstraße, which is located in the city center quite next to the Nikolausdorf on Rudolfplatz, when Cologne’s gay Christmas market “Heavenue” opens its gates again. A smaller but cheerful Christmas market with an alternative and colorful entertainment program not only for the LGBTQI Community – everybody is welcome to celebrate the wonderful Christmas time here together!
