Ardennes

Wallonia Belgium Ardennes

Mainly French speaking and is one of the most unspoilt areas in Belgium. Breath taking countryside, picturesque towns and cities, chateaux and gardens with fascinating heritage, wonderful, all year through colourful carnivals and festivals.
Wallonia boasts some of the best food in Europe, also highlighted are its unique beers, wines and cheeses.

City Of Mons

A charming town that contains the past and also the modern. Ancient alleyways and architecture give it a very old feel, this is reflected in its visitor attractions such as, The Belfry, The Collegiate Church and The Grand Place.
On the outer limits of the city is the WW1 military cemetery, one of the most beautiful and unusual, welcoming visitors throughout the world. Nearly facing each other are the graves of the first and the last British soldiers to be killed on the Western Front, they are surrounded by British and German graves who have rested there since 1916.

Dinant

Approaching Dinant the Citadel dominates on a high rock towering over the river and town.
The Collegiate Church pear-shaped spire will attract your attention more than anything, in the year 1227 a slab of rock fell from the rock face and destroyed the previous church, it was rebuilt during the 13th century and additions made afterwards.

The Citadel
Fit and able people climb the 408 steps to the top, the other option is the cable car, this being the steepest and shortest cable-car ride to be found throughout the world.
Visiting the Citadel takes in the torture room prison. The military museum provides information more about the history and life of the Citadel. A view 300 feet on a terrace above the river is good for pictures and something to remember.

The Bayard Rock
A 100ft high needle stands a mile to the South, the road and the river is another characteristic feature of Dinant. It is here the British troops stopped the advance of German troops in December of 1944, a memorial stone and plaque reminds of the importance played by British troops during the Battle of the Bulge.
During the two World Wars Dinant suffered, most of the town was burnt down by German troops in 1914, it was only in the year 2000 that authorities in Dinant have allowed a German flag to be flown. It now flies with all other European flags which decorate the bridge across the river. Dinant was also badly hit by bombing and shelling between 1940 and 1944.

Hotel Castel de Pont

Hotel Castel de Pont-à-Lesse is a stone’s throw away from Dinant in the Province of Namur. This former ‘Château de la Lesse’ is one of the many castles and châteaux in the Haute-Meuse Valley. Surrounded by 25 hectares of natural beauty, it’s the ideal location to relax, unwind and enjoy a well-earned break. The charm and authentic character of Hotel Castel de Pont-à-Lesse, with its comfortable rooms and gourmet food, make your stay an unforgettable experience.
